What kind of gear does my rider need and do I have to buy it right away?

The most basic pieces of equipment that a rider needs to ride safely is a helmet, mouth guard, vest, spurs, riding glove, and a bull rope. If you are to attend a bull riding school or a practice pen through us we offer gear your rider can borrow for the weekend. Once your rider has been on a few times and decides to stick with the sport then we recommend that you buy your own equipment.

What are chaps and does my rider need to have them?

Chaps help the bulls slide off the riders leg easier and is a tool that helps prevent injuries as much as possible. They aren't required but are recommended.

What brand of gear is the best / should we buy?

There isn't a specific brand that is better than all the other brands that create and sell bull riding gear. It's the same idea as what brand of tennis shoe to buy. Its all about preferences and what your rider likes and doesn't like. If you ever have questions fill out the contact form and we will help answer your questions!

Is it more likely that my rider will get hurt riding than playing other sports?

Bull riding is just another sport where your child can get hurt just like when playing football, basketball, or baseball. Anywhere you go and anything you and your rider does there is always a chance someone could get hurt. Ensure your rider goes through proper warm up and cool down after every practice session to help reduce the chance of injury.

What is the best way for my child to get started in bull riding?

Find a school that has appropriate beginner stock for your rider. The school should be teaching your rider ground level stills on a stationary barrel and a bucking barrel before they are getting onto any stock. If they offer bareback horseback riding that is the closest simulation to riding a bull your rider can have without getting on one.

Where should we buy gear?

There are many different brands and websites that you can buy all the necessary gear from. It all depends preference and how much you want to spend on equipment will determine where you buy your gear.
